Dreaming of Hawaii......... Skier takes on "JAWS" in Maui on his own terms...

This is the time of year where I find myself really thinking (and dreaming) about HAWAII...Having spent some time there via the US Navy and on my own to visit friends, it is the kind of place that sticks with you. I would love to be able to wake up there each day but it looks like Life has other plans for me.....

Here's a cool story about a snow skier who saw that he could "ski" down a different type of mountain and make it look oh-so-very cool.....

I am missing all my friends in Hawaii...wish I was there.

Hawaii daredevil shows you don't need snow to go mountain skiing... but you need courage
By Daily Mail Reporter
11th February 2011

At first glance, it looks like footage of yet another daredevil surfer riding the breathtakingly large waves off the coast of Hawaii.

But a closer look reveals that this particular thrill seeker is on skis - not only that but he has stocks (ski poles) as well.

Chuck Patterson is a mountain free-skier who spends some time each year catching the sun in Hawaii. Obviously missing the ski slopes, Mr Patterson He recently made the trek to the famed Jaws surfing spot off the northern coast of Maui, and tried his hand at tow-surfing - where boats or jet skis help surfers build up the right speed to catch the fast-moving waves.

But Patterson turned the heads of even the most seasoned surfer dude by taking to the waves on his specially adapted skis - complete with stocks.

The stocks don't actually help with direction or propulsion. Presumably, Patterson just feels more comfortable with them in his hands. And, when you're riding a wave the size of a five-storey building, it's all about feeling comfortable.

Mr Patterson said that he started skiing at the tender age of two, and this transition from snow to water seemed natural.

But he wanted it to be seen as a genuine sport rather than just a crazy guy on skis.
He said: 'I don't want this to be looked at as a circus act.
'Ever since I started I was hooked like a little kid - just like I was when I started snow skiing.

'So it's something like that really keeps me going and I know that that's what I'm looking forward to as far as proving that you can actually turn on the waves.

"Aloha Friday" Observations

It is the Friday before the 4th of July holiday weekend which means that in most of the USA, 1/2 of the workforce has asked for the day off and has already started the long weekend.

The other half of the workforce is still at work, likely because they don't have any time they can take off, they are under-the-gun & buried under an increasing workload which will only provide more
work and no additonal pay

Then there are the 15 Million Americans who have no work, and the long weekend is a reminder how bad things are for them....They are in the grips of unemployment and The 4th of July holiday week is a "dead week" as so many Managers are on vacation, practically all
hiring comes to a halt....Happy 4th of July!! You are in the midst of a storm not of your making..good luck riding it out...

Fridays in Hawaii are known as " Aloha Friday " and many if not all wear Aloha shirts...it is part of the custom of "Living Aloha" and adapting the Aloha Spirit in all things...very cool Brudda...

As I write this, the countdown to my R&R stands at 13 days, 2 hours, 22 minutes and 7 seconds ....whoooo-hoo!!

I've lost 35-40 lbs since arriving here in the AFGHN AOR....not a bad weight loss plan but you really don't want the side effects...I am glad to be a slimmer trimmer self and didn't have to starve
myself to get that way - Just run around in the AFGHN heat and eat only Two meals a day...not too tough

The whole Russian spies thing with them being in the USA long-term and deep undercover should only surprise the most Naive among our population...Putin is all KGB right down to his CCCP underwear. Always has been too...

We are coming into the summer doldrums regarding News as the majority of News Writers, Editors and the like will be out at their summer manses, meaning stories of substance will be on hold until
after Labor day....Hang on for a great Fall full of politics, AFGHN War debate and more on the " recovering economy...oh boy....should make for an Interesting Fall season....

Beer has been around since Egyptian times - Through hieroglyphics, cuneiform characters and written accounts, historians have traced the roots of brewing back to ancient African, Egyptian and Sumerian tribes. The oldest proven records of brewing are about 6,000 years old and refer to the Sumerians. It is said that the Sumerians discovered the fermentation process by chance. It could be that a piece of bread or grain became wet and a short time later, it began to ferment and a inebriating pulp resulted, which is then made into a drink that is recorded as having made people feel "exhilarated, wonderful and blissful!" They had discovered a "divine drink" which certainly was a gift from the gods....

I have to wait for my R&R to enjoy any of the Brew of the Gods...

Last but not least, I am glad to be able to enjoy the knowledge that my family is well, I have gainful (although somewhat displaced) employment and that I am truly blessed by God's Love...Like any Old Retired Seabee, I'm guess I'm not happy unless I got something to grouse about...

Thanks, Lord for all your blessings and watching out over me & mine while we endeavor to do our best in this life that you have provided....

CAN I GET AN "AMEN" FROM THE CONGREGATION??? - AMEN!
